Privacy
This site is built to collect as little as possible.
- Who is responsibleAquvalue Limited (company number 12274027, registered office 1 Cedar Office Park, Cobham Road, Wimborne, BH21 7SB) is the controller for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, email data [at] aquvalue [dot] com or use the contact form and choose "Data request (UK GDPR)".
- Visitor statistics and cookiesI count visits with Rybbit, an analytics tool I run on my own server, to produce statistics that help me improve this website. It sets no cookies. When a page loads, the tracking script reads basic details from your browser: the page address and title, the site that sent you here, links out of this site you follow, browser and device type, screen size, language and time zone, and how fast the page loaded. My server uses your network address briefly to work out your approximate location (country, region, city), your network provider and a one-way code that changes every day; the address itself is not stored. The statistics are not sent to Rybbit the company or anyone else, and are not used for advertising.
I rely on the exception for statistics in the UK's electronic communications rules, and on my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. Visit records are deleted after 90 days. Visits that look automated are kept separately for up to 3 months, so they don't distort the statistics.
Switching it off: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics never runs for you. You can also switch it off below. That choice is the only thing this site stores in your browser.Analytics runs only with JavaScript on. With JavaScript off, nothing is counted.
- Contact formIf you send a message, I receive what you enter by email and use it to reply in the way you chose. For general enquiries, including from recruiters, I rely on my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me. Where you ask me to take steps before a possible contract, I rely on that instead. I don't add you to any marketing list, and I only pass your details to an associate if you ask me to. The website keeps no copy of your message.
I delete enquiry correspondence 24 months after our last contact. If an enquiry leads to an engagement, the relevant correspondence becomes part of my client records and is kept for as long as the engagement and my legal and accounting obligations require. - Spam protectionThe form and the booking page use ALTCHA, a check that runs in your browser and sends nothing to a third party. To limit abuse, the contact form counts messages per network address in the server's memory for up to 24 hours. That count is never written to disk or to a log, and is cleared whenever the server restarts. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in protecting the site.
- Booking a callThe booking page runs on my own server and keeps what is needed to hold the appointment: your name, email, the time and any note you add. The lawful basis is the steps you ask for before a possible contract or, for other calls, my legitimate interest in arranging them. Confirmations go by email through Fastmail, and the appointment is added to my calendar there. Booking records are deleted automatically 24 months after your last appointment; copies in my mailbox follow the 24-month enquiry rule.
The booking page uses two essential cookies while you book:ea_sessionkeeps your session together (up to one week), andcsrf_cookieprotects the form against forged submissions (up to two hours). Neither is used for tracking. - Who processes data for meHetzner Online GmbH hosts the website, analytics and booking page on a server in Nuremberg, Germany. Server backups are kept for up to 7 days.
Fastmail (Fastmail Pty Ltd) handles my email and calendar. My account's primary data is held in the EU (Amsterdam). Fastmail keeps a replica, backups and system logs in the US, so a copy of your message or booking may be held there. Fastmail processes this data under its data processing agreement, which uses the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can ask me for details of the safeguards. - Your rightsDepending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct or erase your personal data, restrict its use, or receive certain data in a portable format.
You have the right to object to any use of your personal data that relies on legitimate interests, including the visitor statistics.
To exercise your rights, email data [at] aquvalue [dot] com or use the contact form. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
